Effluent is the liquid that leaves a septic tank after the heavy solids settle out. These pumps sit in the pump chamber and send it to a drain field, a mound, or a low-pressure pipe system.
Which Monarch Effluent Pump Handles Your Lift?
Pick by total head. The WS30 (28 ft shut-off) and WS50 (42 ft) suit short, fairly level runs, while the high head WS50H (63 ft) and the 1 HP WS100H (90 ft) suit mound systems and long runs. In every case, the flow at your head has to meet the dose your septic design calls for.

The WS50 and WS50H share a 1/2 HP size, but only the H model keeps pumping past 40 feet. At that height, the WS100H still moves twice the flow of the WS50H.
WS Effluent Models and Order Numbers
AM models come with a float switch: a piggyback style on the WS30 and an SJE Pump Master on the WS50, WS50H and WS100H. M models need a separate switch or control panel.

Every WS effluent pump uses a Class 30 cast iron motor and pump housing, a 416 stainless steel shaft, and a 5/8 inch carbon and ceramic seal. The motor sits in oil, and an adapter kit converts the 2 inch discharge to 3 inch.
WSV Vortex Models: Solids That Skip the Impeller
A vortex impeller sits recessed above the inlet and spins the liquid into a swirl. Monarch's datasheet says solids ride that swirl out the discharge without touching the impeller.
The WSV52HM (620235) and WSV52HAM (620236) run on a 1/2 HP, 115 V oil-free motor and pass 2 inch solids. Monarch's own catalog lists them as sewage pumps. They move 90 GPM at 5 feet and 35 GPM at 20 feet, with a 25 foot shut-off head.
The WSV50HM and WSV50HAM are the effluent version. Parts for them include impeller 246270, casing 246271, seal 246265, capacitor 246268 and float switch 206616.
When to Choose a Different Pump
- Raw sewage from a toilet. A standard WS effluent pump passes 3/4 inch solids at most. Use the WS52 and WS102 sewage pumps, which pass 2 inch solids with more lift than the WSV52H.
- Groundwater in a basement sump. A lighter pump with a vertical float may fit a narrow pit better. See the ESP33 and ESP50 sump pumps.
- Lift past 90 feet. No WS model reaches it. Send us your design head and dose rate, and we will suggest a pump that does.
