A manual grinder pump cannot start itself, so the Franklin Electric grinder pump control panel does it for the pump. The panel starts the motor, reads the floats, and sounds the alarm before sewage backs up. Here is what each switch does, how the two FPS panel types differ, and how to match one to your pump.

One Pump or Two: Simplex or Duplex Panel

Use a simplex panel when one manual IGP pump serves the basin. Use a duplex panel when two pumps share one wet well and must alternate. In both cases, match the panel to the pump's voltage, phase, and full load amps, which are printed on the pump nameplate and in its model number.

HOA Switch, Alarm Light, and Silence Switch

  • HOA switch: Hand runs the pump now, Off stops it, and Auto lets the floats control it.
  • High water alarm: an audible buzzer and a visual alarm light warn you that the level is too high.
  • Alarm ON/OFF switch: silences the buzzer while you sort out the cause.
  • Color-coded terminal strip (duplex): makes field wiring easier to trace.

Simplex Grinder Pump Control Panels

Franklin built these panels for the IGP manual series. A manual pump has no internal float or starting parts, so the panel supplies the start relay, capacitors, and switching it needs.

Simplex panels are the standard pick for single-family grinder stations. Models include the A-SF230CBG-121, A-SF230CBG-215, 1121W124X, 1026539, and 1052443.

Duplex Grinder Pump Control Panels

A duplex panel runs two IGP pumps in rotation to balance wear. If one pump fails or the level keeps rising, the panel starts the second pump and triggers the alarm.

Single phase models include the 1052444 and 1026540. Three phase models include the 3221W301H17A, 3221W401H17A, and 3221W511X6A19B.

Matching the Panel to the Pump Nameplate

  1. Check the model number. An "M" after IGP means a manual pump that needs a panel to run.
  2. Confirm voltage and phase. A single phase pump needs a single phase panel.
  3. Read the full load amps. A single phase IGP draws 13.9 A. A single phase High Head IGP draws 16 A or 18.5 A, so it needs a panel rated for more current.
  4. Count the pumps and floats. Two pumps mean a duplex panel and four floats.

Franklin states that single phase manual High Head models need a specific FPS panel or capacitor kit for proper operation and third-party approval. Send us the pump model so we can match the exact panel.

Automatic Pumps and Dead Motors: Skip the Panel

An automatic IGP pump has its start components inside the pump. It does not rely on a separate panel to start, so a failed automatic pump usually needs a new pump, not a new panel.

If the motor itself is dead, look at our IGP manual and automatic pumps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do grinder pumps have a reset button?

No, most grinder pumps do not have a single reset button. On a Franklin station, the control panel holds the controls you use instead. Duplex panels have separate control and power circuit breakers that you can reset if one trips. Every Franklin panel has an alarm ON/OFF switch to silence the buzzer and an HOA switch to test the pump in Hand mode. If a breaker trips again right away, call a qualified technician.

My grinder pump's red light is flashing. What does this mean?

A flashing red light on a grinder pump panel means the water in the basin has reached the high water alarm float. The pump is not keeping up, or it has stopped. Stop using water in the building right away. Silence the buzzer with the alarm switch, then check whether a breaker has tripped. If the light stays on, call a technician, because the basin can overflow or back up into the house.

Why is my grinder pump constantly running?

A grinder pump that runs constantly usually has a float, valve, or water problem. A float stuck in the on position keeps calling for the pump. A failed check valve lets slurry flow back into the basin, so the pump pumps the same waste over and over. Groundwater leaking into the basin adds extra water. The HOA switch may also be left in Hand. Check the switch first, then have a technician inspect the floats and valve.

How do you choose a grinder pump control panel replacement?

To choose a grinder pump control panel replacement, start with the pump nameplate. Note the model number, voltage, phase, and full load amps. Then count the pumps in the basin: one pump needs a simplex panel, and two pumps need a duplex panel. Match the float count too. Franklin duplex panels need four floats, sold separately. Send us those details, and we will confirm the exact Franklin panel model before it ships.

Send us the model number from your pump or old panel, and we will quote the matching Franklin control panel.
