A pump that moves 2,000 gallons a minute does not get thrown away when it starts to leak or lose pressure. It gets rebuilt, and Franklin Electric repair parts are what put it back to factory output. This page covers the large frame mount, SAE engine drive, hydraulic driven, and FBC pumps listed above, the parts that wear on each, and what to send us for a quote.
Which Franklin Electric Repair Parts Wear Out First?
On a centrifugal pump, the seal, the shaft sleeve, and the wear rings wear out first. They take the friction so the volute, shaft, and impeller last longer. On these Franklin Electric pumps all three are replaceable, so a rebuild usually means a seal kit, a sleeve, and a set of rings, not a new pump.
Wear Parts by Pump Size
Every pump in this category uses a back pull-out design. The table shows what you can replace on each one, based on the product details for each model.
| Pump | Max Flow / Head | Impeller | Replaceable Wear Parts | Seal Options |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7.5 inch frame mount | 1,100 GPM / 250 ft | Ductile iron, enclosed | Bronze wear rings, shaft sleeve | Packed-box with lantern ring, or SiC/SiC mechanical seal |
| 9 inch frame mount | 2,000 GPM / 260 ft | Cast iron, double-keyed | Shaft sleeve, volute case (NPT or flanged) | Packed-box, or carbon/ceramic mechanical seal |
| 10 inch frame mount | 1,900 GPM / 400 ft | Ductile iron, enclosed | Bronze wear rings, shaft sleeve, packing gland | Packed-box with lantern ring, or SiC/SiC mechanical seal |
| 13 inch frame mount | 2,800 GPM / 360 ft | 316 stainless steel | SAE 660 bronze wear rings, shaft sleeve | Packed-box with lantern ring, or carbon/ceramic mechanical seal |
| 14 inch frame mount | 7,000 GPM / 375 ft | Ductile iron with external balance lines | Bronze wear rings, shaft sleeve | Packed-box with lantern ring, or SiC/SiC mechanical seal |
| 9 inch SAE engine drive | 2,000 GPM / 260 ft | Cast iron, double-keyed | Shaft sleeve, volute case | Packed-box with lantern ring, or carbon/ceramic mechanical seal |
| 13 inch SAE engine drive | 2,800 GPM / 360 ft | 316 stainless steel | SAE 660 bronze wear rings, shaft sleeve | Packed-box with lantern ring, or carbon/ceramic mechanical seal |
| 9 inch hydraulic driven | 2,000 GPM / 260 ft | Cast iron, double-keyed | Shaft sleeve, volute case | Packed-box, or carbon/ceramic mechanical seal |
| FBC close-coupled | 200 GPM / 80 ft | 316 stainless steel | Volute, gasket, studs, hardware | SiC/SiC/FKM mechanical seal |
The 9 inch volute comes in NPT and flanged versions. On the 9 inch frame mount, the NPT case also comes in clockwise and counterclockwise rotation. Tell us which one you have before you order a case.
What Each Wear Part Does
Wear Rings
Wear rings sit between the spinning impeller and the still volute. They keep a tight gap so water does not slip back to the suction side.
As the rings wear, the gap opens and the pump loses flow and head. Replacing the rings brings the gap back without a new impeller or case.
Shaft Sleeve
The sleeve covers the shaft where the packing or seal rides. It takes the wear so the shaft does not. A grooved sleeve is cheap to swap compared to a shaft.
Packing or Mechanical Seal
Packed-box pumps use rings of packing that drip a little by design to stay cool. A mechanical seal runs dry on the outside, with two hard faces pressed together.
Most of the large frame pumps here take either one. The 7.5, 10, and 14 inch models use silicon carbide faces with FKM elastomers. The 9 and 13 inch models use carbon and ceramic faces with nitrile elastomers.
Volute Case
The volute rarely wears out. It gets replaced after freeze damage, a crack, or a change in pipe connection. Match the size, connection type, and rotation.
Back Pull-Out Saves the Piping
All of these pumps share one service feature. The rotating assembly pulls out the back of the volute, so the suction and discharge pipes stay bolted in place.
That matters on a pump station, a water truck, or a field unit with flanged pipe. You pull the frame, swap the sleeve, rings, and seal on the bench, and slide it back in.
The 7.5, 10, 13, and 14 inch frames add jack-out holes, and the 13 inch models add lifting bosses for the heavy assembly.
Looking for a Different Franklin Series?
This category holds the large frame pumps and the FBC. Parts for the AG, FAC, Turf Boss, FMIT, and other series are on our full Franklin parts list, sorted by series.
If the whole pump needs replacing, compare current models in frame mount centrifugal pumps.

What to Send for a Parts Quote
- The model from the pump tag, for example XS3x4-9 or XS6x8-13
- Impeller size (7.5, 9, 10, 13, or 14 inch)
- Drive type: frame mount, SAE engine, hydraulic, or close-coupled
- Pipe connection (NPT or flanged) and rotation
- Seal type: packing or mechanical seal
- The part name or part number, if you have the parts breakdown
A photo of the nameplate and the seal area also helps. We confirm the fit before anything ships.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a wear ring in a centrifugal pump?
A wear ring in a centrifugal pump is a replaceable ring that sits between the impeller and the volute. It keeps the gap between the moving and still parts tight, so pumped water does not leak back to the suction side. The ring wears instead of the impeller or case. When it wears, flow and head drop. On the 7.5, 10, 13, and 14 inch Franklin Electric frame mount pumps, the bronze wear rings are replaceable, so you restore the gap without buying a new impeller or volute.
What is pump packing?
Pump packing is a set of soft, braided rings packed around the shaft where it leaves the pump case. A gland presses the rings snug, and a small, steady drip keeps them cool and lubricated. A lantern ring in the middle can carry flush water to the packing. Packing is simple to adjust in the field and easy to replace. Most of the large frame Franklin Electric pumps on this page can run with a packed box or a mechanical seal.
How do you change a mechanical seal in a centrifugal pump?
To change a mechanical seal in a centrifugal pump, shut off and lock out power, close the valves, and drain the case. On a back pull-out pump, unbolt the frame and pull the rotating assembly out the back. Remove the impeller, slide off the old seal, and check the shaft sleeve for grooves. Clean the seat, install the new seal faces without touching them, and reassemble. Replace the sleeve too if it is worn.
How do you check wear ring clearance in a centrifugal pump?
To check wear ring clearance in a centrifugal pump, pull the rotating assembly and measure two things. Measure the inside diameter of the wear ring and the outside diameter of the impeller hub that runs in it. The difference is the clearance. Compare it to the limit in the pump's service manual. If it is past the limit, replace the ring. Measure in a few spots, since rings can wear out of round.
