A 2 HP BSE-S200 moves 126 gallons a minute at 20 feet of head, enough to fill a tank or drain a flooded field in a hurry. Every Monarch BSE pump in the S series runs from a single phase motor and primes itself after the first fill.

Monarch BSE Pump Replacement: The Franklin FBSE

The Monarch BSE pump line has been superseded by the Franklin Electric FBSE series. The FBSE keeps the cast iron volute, the blind hole tapped cast iron impeller and single phase motors from 1/2 to 3 HP. You can still rebuild a BSE, since seals, impellers, casings and motors are listed by part code below.

BSE-S Self-Priming Transfer Pump Performance

All four models run on single phase, 60 Hz, 115/230 volt capacitor start motors with a square flange mount. Flow is in gallons per minute at total head in feet.

The jump from 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch ports at 1-1/2 HP is the big break in the line. If your piping is 2 inch, start with the S150 or S200.

• Lawn and sprinkler lines: the BSE-S100 gives up to 80 GPM for an irrigation zone.
• Dewatering: basements, trenches, sumps and flooded low spots.
• Salt water and liquid fertilizer: the blind hole impeller keeps both off the shaft.
• Filling tanks: the S150 and S200 were listed for nurse tank filling on farms.

The priming plug threads onto a standard garden hose, so the first fill needs no tools.

BSE-S Parts by Model

Every model takes a 5/8 inch mechanical seal, either 240104 (Type A) or 240316 (Type B). Check the old seal before ordering.

The S150 and S200 hold the casing on with four 3/8 inch studs and nuts. The S75 and S100 use 3/8 inch bolts instead.

BSE-S or BSE? Look for the S

Monarch also built BSE pumps without the S, such as the BSE-100. Those use C-face motors, and their casings, impellers and motor adapters carry different codes.

Copy the model exactly from the plate, S included, before you order.

When a BSE Is the Wrong Pump for the Job

A BSE-S100 moves 80 GPM at 20 feet of total head. Flow drops as head rises: 70 GPM at 30 feet, 60 GPM at 40 feet, 42 GPM at 50 feet and 20 GPM at 60 feet. The BSE-S100 is a 1 HP, 115/230 volt pump with 1-1/4 inch ports. Add the height you lift the water and the friction in your pipe to find your total head, then read across that curve.

How do I tell a BSE from a BSE-S?

You tell a BSE from a BSE-S by the model number on the plate and by the motor mount. BSE-S models use a square flange motor, and BSE models without the S use a C-face motor. The parts are different. For example, the BSE-S100 takes impeller 438111 and casing 438021, while the C-face BSE-100 takes impeller 438120 and casing 438020. Always order by the full model number.

What distinguishes the BSE-S200 from the BSE-S150?

What distinguishes the BSE-S200 from the BSE-S150 is a 2 HP motor in place of 1-1/2 HP, a different impeller (438131 instead of 438121), and a slightly longer body. The S200 moves 126 GPM at 20 feet, against 102 GPM for the S150, and it still gives 10 GPM at 70 feet. Both share the 2 inch casing 438029, gasket 193930, and the stud and nut casing mount.
