Nitrogen solution breaks down ordinary rubber seals, and a motor on a dusty fill pad has to keep dirt and spray out. Every Monarch BSEF pump was built for that job, with a stainless steel and Viton seal and a totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motor.

What Replaced the Monarch BSEF Pump?
Franklin Electric's FBSEF series replaced the BSEF. It keeps the TEFC motor, the blind hole tapped cast iron impeller, and a seal with FKM (Viton type) elastomers and 300 series stainless parts, and it reaches 295 GPM. BSEF owners can still rebuild, since seals, impellers and motors are listed by part code.
A Fertilizer Transfer Pump Built Around the Seal
Monarch listed the BSEF for liquid nitrogen and phosphorous fertilizer solutions, weed control chemicals, sprayer and nurse tank filling, and dirty water dewatering. The seal is what makes that possible.
It uses stainless steel with Viton bellows instead of standard rubber. The impeller is semi-open cast iron and blind hole tapped, so the chemical never reaches the shaft threads.
The BSEF-500TE and 750TE add a replaceable stainless steel shaft sleeve, part 266006. The BSEF-300TE has no sleeve, per its product listing.

The 3 HP and up models hold pressure much better at height. The BSEF-750TE still moves 70 GPM at 80 feet, where the 5 HP drops to 20.

Liquids to Keep Out of a BSEF
Monarch's listing limits industrial use to non-flammable liquids that are compatible with cast iron and Viton. Gasoline, diesel and other flammable liquids fall outside that limit.
The BSEF also is not a trash pump. Its semi-open impeller handles dirty water and light solids, not large debris.
BSEF or BSE for Your Farm?
If you only move water, or fertilizer once in a while, a lighter pump may be enough. The Monarch BSE utility pumps share the blind hole impeller, from 3/4 to 2 HP, without the TEFC motor or the Viton bellows seal listed for the BSEF.

What does TE mean on a BSEF pump?
TE on a BSEF pump goes with its totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motor. Every model on this page, from the BSEF-150TE to the BSEF-750TE, carries a TEFC motor. That motor design keeps dust, dirt and moisture out of the windings, which matters on fill pads and in barns where fertilizer spray and dust are part of the job. Read the full model number, TE included, when you order a replacement motor.
Does the BSEF-300TE have a shaft sleeve?
No, the BSEF-300TE does not have a replaceable shaft sleeve. It relies on its blind hole tapped impeller to keep the pumped liquid off the motor shaft. The larger BSEF-500TE and BSEF-750TE do use a replaceable stainless steel sleeve, part 266006, which protects the shaft and makes seal changes simpler. If you own a 500TE or 750TE, order a sleeve along with the seal when the old one shows wear.
Can a Franklin FBSEF replace a Monarch BSEF?
Yes, a Franklin Electric FBSEF is the successor to the Monarch BSEF, and it keeps the TEFC motor, the blind hole tapped cast iron impeller and a seal with FKM elastomers and stainless parts. The FBSEF runs up to 7.5 HP and 295 GPM, with three phase models in 230, 460 and 575 volts. Port sizes and mounting can differ by model, so send us your BSEF model number and we will confirm the FBSEF that fits.
