Generac trash pumps for muddy, sandy water, from the 2 inch ST20-S semi-trash pump to the 3 inch PRO XC3000P. Compare flow, solids handling, and run time below, and order repair parts for each model.

A Generac trash pump clears a flooded site, a muddy pond, or a sandy trench fast, as long as you pick the right size for the debris. Is standing water slowing down your job?

This page compares the three Generac pumps we carry, explains the difference between semi-trash and full trash pumps, and shows what to check before you order parts.

Which Generac Trash Pump Do I Need?

The pump you need depends on flow and debris size. For sandy or muddy water with small grit, the 2 inch ST20-S semi-trash pump is enough. For water with solids up to 1 inch, choose the 2 inch T20-S. For the highest flow and solids up to 1.2 inches, choose the 3 inch PRO XC3000P.

Specs come from Generac's published product information. All three are gas trash pumps with a low-oil shutdown and a silicon carbide mechanical seal.

Generac PRO XC3000P

The PRO XC3000P trash water pump is the largest of the three. It has a fully wrapped 11 gauge steel frame, a steel lifting pocket for a forklift or crane, and a 3-year limited warranty from Generac.

If you already own one, the PRO XC3000P parts breakdown lists engine and pump parts by assembly.

Generac T20-S

The T20-S is a 2 inch full trash pump. It passes solids up to 1 inch, which makes it a good match for storm cleanup, drainage ditches, and small construction sites.

Generac ST20-S

The ST20-S is a semi-trash pump built for muddy or sandy water. Its Easy Prime funnel makes priming simpler, and it is the lightest duty of the three.

Semi-Trash Pump vs. Full Trash Pump

The main difference is the size of the debris each pump can pass. A semi-trash pump handles sand, silt, and small grit, while a full trash pump passes larger solids like pebbles, leaves, and twigs.

  • Choose a semi-trash pump for muddy puddles, pool draining, and water with fine sand.
  • Choose a full trash pump for construction sites, flood cleanup, and ditches with sticks and stones.

When a Trash Pump Is Not the Right Choice

These Generac pumps are centrifugal pumps, and they work best on water that still flows freely. Thick mud, slurry, and sludge can clog the impeller or wear the seal quickly.

For that kind of work, a diaphragm pump is the better tool. Compare our Generac Magnum diaphragm pumps before you decide.

Before You Order Generac Trash Pump Parts

Start with the model number on the pump label, since each of these pumps has its own parts list. Then check the engine label too.

Some older ST20-S and T20-S pumps were sold with Subaru engines instead of Generac G-Force engines. Engine parts such as air filters and spark plugs differ between the two, so match the engine before you order.

For the most common wear items and a full parts list on the 2 inch pump, see the T20-S repair parts page.

What Changes the Price of a Generac Trash Pump?

Every pump here is quoted rather than sold at a set price. Three things move the price the most:

  • Port size: the 3 inch PRO XC3000P costs more than the 2 inch models.
  • Semi-trash or full trash: a full trash pump costs more than a semi-trash pump of the same size.
  • Engine size: a bigger G-Force engine moves more water and adds to the price.

Send us the job details and we will quote the right pump.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a semi trash pump and a full trash pump?

The difference between a semi trash pump and a full trash pump is the size of the solids each one can pass. A semi-trash pump like the Generac ST20-S is built for muddy or sandy water with small grit. A full trash pump like the T20-S or PRO XC3000P passes solids up to 1 or 1.2 inches. Full trash pumps handle leaves, twigs, and pebbles without clogging.

What size trash pump do I need?

The size of trash pump you need depends on how much water you must move and how big the debris is. A 2 inch trash pump suits smaller jobs like yard flooding and small ditches, with up to 185 gallons per minute on the Generac T20-S. A 3 inch pump suits larger construction and flood jobs, with up to 350 gallons per minute on the PRO XC3000P. Match the solids rating to your debris too.

How many gallons a minute does a 3 inch trash pump pump?

A 3 inch trash pump can move a few hundred gallons per minute, and the Generac PRO XC3000P is rated for up to 350 gallons per minute. That is roughly double the 185 gallons per minute of the 2 inch Generac T20-S. Real output drops as suction lift and discharge height go up, so a pump lifting water from a deep pit or pushing it uphill will move less than its maximum rating.

Will a trash pump pump sludge?

No, a trash pump will not handle true sludge well. A centrifugal trash pump needs water that flows, and thick mud or slurry can clog the impeller and wear out the seal. Muddy water with sand and small debris is fine. For heavy sludge, a diaphragm pump is the better choice because it has no impeller to clog and can keep pumping thick material.
