2 HP Simplex Grinder Pump Models and Order Numbers

Item number Pump model Package Basin diameter × depth HP Volts AC FLA (A) Lead
515201 IGP-SMPXFG-HP2448 Hard-piped 24 × 48 in. 2 230 13.9 20 ft
515202 IGP-SMPXFG-HP2460 Hard-piped 24 × 60 in. 2 230 13.9 20 ft
515203 IGP-SMPXFG-HP2472 Hard-piped 24 × 72 in. 2 230 13.9 20 ft
515204 IGP-SMPX2460 Standard fiberglass 24 × 60 in. 2 230 13.9 15 ft
515205 IGP-SMPX2472 Standard fiberglass 24 × 72 in. 2 230 13.9 15 ft
515206 IGP-SMPX2484 Standard fiberglass 24 × 84 in. 2 230 13.9 15 ft

How to read the model: In IGP-SMPXFG-HP2448, IGP identifies the grinder pump family, SMPX means simplex, HP denotes the hard-piped package, and 2448 refers to a 24-inch-diameter by 48-inch-deep basin. For IGP-SMPX2460, the final digits indicate a 24 × 60-inch basin.

Fiberglass Basin Dimensions and Discharge Centerlines

The centerline of the discharge outlet is an important installation detail when matching an existing force main or engineering a new wet well. The positions below are taken from Franklin’s two package sheets.

Item Model Basin diameter Depth Discharge centerline, below top
515201 IGP-SMPXFG-HP2448 24 in. 48 in. 18 in.
515202 IGP-SMPXFG-HP2460 24 in. 60 in. 18 in.
515203 IGP-SMPXFG-HP2472 24 in. 72 in. 24 in.
515204 IGP-SMPX2460 24 in. 60 in. 24 in.
515205 IGP-SMPX2472 24 in. 72 in. 36 in.
515206 IGP-SMPX2484 24 in. 84 in. 48 in.

For basin sizing: Give us the incoming 4-inch sewer invert depth, ground elevation, desired discharge position, expected wastewater loading and required storage volume. The overall basin depth alone does not determine correct placement or usable wet-well capacity.

IGP Grinder Pump Performance: Flow at Total Dynamic Head

These are the manufacturer-published IGP series performance reference points. The achievable flow depends on the actual total dynamic head of the force main, including elevation rise and friction losses.

Total dynamic head Flow (GPM) Flow (LPM)
20 ft 32 121.1
40 ft 31 117.3
60 ft 30 113.6
80 ft 25 94.6
100 ft 20 75.7
120 ft 10 37.9

At a design duty of 100 feet of total dynamic head, the published flow is approximately 20 GPM. A maximum flow or shutoff-head figure cannot be used as a single guaranteed operating point. If your project requires substantially higher head, compare the separate high-head IGPH series rather than assuming the standard IGP package is a two-stage pump.

OEM Replacement Grinder Pumps, Controls and Service Parts

Need to repair an existing simplex grinder pump station rather than replace the basin? Start with the station order number, the pump’s data plate, voltage, control arrangement and the component that needs replacement. Franklin publishes separate IGP pump and control references for the two package types.

OEM number Model / reference Part or component Where used / ordering note
515861 IGP-A231-20 Automatic grinder pump, 20-ft lead Hard-piped package reference

Common repair requests: replacement IGP grinder pump, cutter and grinding components, level-control floats, pump control panel, check valve, discharge connection, junction box and adapter harness. For worn cutter assemblies or a failed pump, we can also help compare an exact replacement against a retrofit solution. Do not assume a positive-displacement-system retrofit kit directly fits this packaged centrifugal grinder station.

When a Simplex System Is a Good Fit

  • Homes below street sewer level: Lift sewage to a municipal collection line when gravity drainage is not available.
  • Low-pressure sewer developments: Provide a property-level pumping station with a small pressure force main.
  • Rural properties: Move domestic sewage along a designed force main where a conventional gravity connection is impractical.
  • Light-commercial installations: Serve suitable single-pump loads when the engineered peak flow and operational requirements are within the selected pump’s capability.
  • Replacement of an existing 24-inch-basin station: Match original basin dimensions, discharge location, electrical and control arrangements.

Simplex Versus Duplex Grinder Pump Systems

Selection factor Simplex package Duplex package
Number of grinder pumps One Two
Typical use Single-home or suitable light-commercial duty Where redundancy or higher peak-duty control is needed
Basin diameter in listed packages 24 in. 36 in.
If main pump stops No second pump in the station A second pump may operate as designed by its duplex controller
Control arrangement Automatic hard-piped or externally controlled fiberglass Duplex controls and multiple level switches
Operating cost and maintenance Single pump and fewer station components Two pumps and more components to maintain
Selection basis Duty point, invert, expected inflow Duty, required redundancy, basin/storage sizing

A simplex package avoids the complexity of a second pump, but it does not provide standby pumping. For buildings where wastewater interruption is especially disruptive, review the duplex alternative and engineer its controls and capacity accordingly.

How to Select the Basin, Controls and Discharge

  • Confirm the hydraulic duty: Specify design GPM, static lift, force-main length, pipe size and fittings so the pump can be checked against its performance curve.
  • Match the inlet elevation: Select basin depth and incoming 4-inch line height using the project invert and wet-well operating levels.
  • Choose the controls: Hard-piped automatic versus standard fiberglass with external NEMA 4X panel, high-water alarm and three control floats.
  • Verify electrical service: Match 230V, single-phase supply and the 13.9A full-load motor data to the installation’s protection and controls.
  • Check service access: Consider cover, guide arrangement, discharge disconnect and site accessibility for pump removal.
  • Confirm local approvals: The plumbing/electrical installer should check venting, force main, basin installation and alarm requirements for the jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a Franklin Electric simplex grinder pump system?

The package includes one 2 HP IGP grinder pump and a 24-inch fiberglass basin. Hard-piped and standard fiberglass packages have different pipework, controls and covers. Standard fiberglass packages include an external control panel, three floats and high-water alarm equipment; hard-piped versions use an automatic pump.

What is the difference between IGP-SMPXFG-HP2460 and IGP-SMPX2460?

Both reference 24 × 60-inch fiberglass basins, but IGP-SMPXFG-HP2460 (item 515202) is the hard-piped package with a 20-foot-lead automatic pump. IGP-SMPX2460 (item 515204) is the standard fiberglass package with a 15-foot-lead pump, external control panel and floats.

Does every 2 HP simplex grinder pump package include a control panel?

No. Franklin’s hard-piped package sheet describes an automatic grinder pump that does not require a separate control panel for basic operation. The standard fiberglass package includes a NEMA 4X panel with pump control floats and a high-water alarm.

Is the IGP simplex pump a two-stage grinder pump?

The listed packages use the standard IGP hydraulic. Franklin identifies its higher-head IGPH grinder pumps separately with a two-stage design. Do not treat an IGP-SMPX package as an IGPH high-head pump without confirming the model.

How much water can this grinder pump move at 100 feet of head?

The manufacturer’s IGP performance table lists approximately 20 GPM at 100 feet of total dynamic head. Actual flow should be determined using the complete system curve and the site’s elevation and friction losses.

What basin depth should I choose?

Choose between the listed 48-, 60-, 72- and 84-inch depths using the incoming sewer invert, discharge centerline, usable storage volume and local installation requirements. The available depths depend on whether you choose the hard-piped or standard fiberglass package.

Can I replace only the grinder pump or control panel?

Often the pump or control components can be serviced individually. Franklin lists IGP pump, float and panel references, but the exact replacement depends on the station design and revision. Send us the original model and part number for confirmation.

Does a simplex package provide a backup pump?

No. A simplex station uses one grinder pump. For installations needing a second pump and a duplex control arrangement, compare the Franklin Electric duplex system.

Can Ken’s Distributing Company quote a replacement check valve or adapter?

Yes. Provide the station model and a description or photo of the existing connection. We can check applicable OEM discharge valves, elbows, harnesses and other service accessories for price and availability.
