Six series make up the Franklin Electric engine driven pump lineup, and only two of them need water at the inlet before they start. The FACGF and FNG-23V are standard centrifugal pumps, while the FTSP, FMIG, FNSGF, and FBSGF prime themselves. Decide which side you need, then match the engine and port size to your job with the table below.

Every pump here carries its own Honda, Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, or Vanguard engine. You need fuel and oil, but no power line, generator, or tractor.

Match the Job to a Franklin Electric Engine Driven Pump

Your job Family Start with
Clean water transfer on 2-inch hose, easy to carry Centrifugal FACGF
Water truck or big irrigation run that needs electric start Centrifugal FNG-23V (23 HP V-Twin)
Pump sits above a pond or pit and restarts all day Self-priming FBSGF or FNSGF
Long hose or sprinklers that need extra pressure Self-priming FNSGF (enclosed impeller)
Muddy construction dewatering Self-priming FMIG (up to 10% solids)
Highest flow on 4-inch hose Self-priming FTSP4-18V (series up to 615 GPM)
Crew moves the pump around the site by hand Self-priming FTSP roll frame models
Site equipment already runs on diesel Self-priming FTSP-3DRF-ES (Kohler diesel)

Gas Engine Centrifugal Category: FACGF, FNG-23V, and the FTSP

The FACGF and FNG-23V bolt the pump end straight to the engine and expect a flooded suction or a foot valve. The FACGF comes in four engine sizes from a 160 cc Honda to a 728 cc Kohler. The FNG-23V steps up to a 23 HP Vanguard V-Twin with electric start and a replaceable bronze wear ring.

The FTSP is sold in this same category, but it is a self-priming pump: a check valve in its front cover holds water between starts. Model tables, engines, and fuel tank sizes are on the gas engine centrifugal pumps page.

Gas Engine Self-Priming Pumps: FMIG, FNSGF, and FBSGF

After the first fill, these pumps clear air from the suction line and restart on their own. The FMIG handles mud, sand, and silt up to 10% by volume, with a replaceable steel wear plate and flows up to 300 GPM. The FNSGF favors pressure, and the FBSGF is the lighter everyday pump with 2-inch or 3-inch ports.

Engines, Starting, and Low Oil Protection

Pick the engine brand your local dealer services, since engine parts come from the engine maker. Honda, Briggs and Stratton, and Kohler all appear across the lineup, and most models have an adjustable throttle.

The FNG-23V, FTSP-3DRF-ES, and FTSP4-18V come with electric start. Each ships without the battery and cables. The FTSP-2HRF, FTSP-3HRF, and FTSP-3DRF-ES also shut down on low oil, which protects the engine on long, unattended runs.

What to Send Us for a Quote

  • The model number from your current pump's nameplate, if you have one.
  • Where the water sits: above the pump, or below it and how far.
  • What is in the water: clean, silty, or muddy with solids.
  • The flow you need, the hose size, and how far and how high you are pumping.
  • Your preferred engine brand, and whether you want electric start.

Engine size and port size set most of the price, so a 2-inch pump with a small Honda costs far less than a 4-inch pump with a Vanguard. We quote each exact model number.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an engine-driven pump?

An engine-driven pump is a pump powered by its own gasoline or diesel engine instead of an electric motor. The engine turns the pump shaft, and an adjustable throttle sets the speed and flow. That makes it fully portable and independent of the power grid. All six Franklin series on this page, from the small FBSGF to the 23 HP FNG-23V, are engine-driven water pumps for irrigation, dewatering, and transfer work.

What is a diesel engine-driven water pump?

A diesel engine-driven water pump is a portable pump that burns diesel fuel instead of gasoline to spin its impeller. Crews often choose diesel when their other equipment already runs on it, so one fuel serves the whole site. In the Franklin lineup, the FTSP-3DRF-ES pairs a 442 cc Kohler diesel with a 3-inch self-priming pump end, a roll frame, and electric start. The rest of the series here run on gasoline.

Can a gas powered water pump be used for irrigation?

Yes, a gas powered water pump can be used for irrigation. It lets you pull from a pond, canal, or river where no power line reaches. Franklin lists irrigation as a use for the FACGF, FMIG, and FTSP. Pick a self-priming model if the pump sits above the water, and use the adjustable throttle to match flow to each field section.

Send us the model number from your current engine pump, or your water source and hose size, and we will quote the right Franklin engine driven pump.
