Standing over a pit with a dead pump, the first question is simple: what job did the old one do? Monarch submersible pumps in this section split into four jobs, and the letters at the front of the model number tell you which one. This guide routes each job, and each Monarch model, to the right page and lists what to send us for a quote.
Every pump here sits under water and moves liquid out of a pit or tank when gravity cannot. What changes from page to page is what is in that liquid, and how high it has to go.
Which Monarch Submersible Pump Does Your Job Need?
Match the pump to the solids in the water. Raw sewage from a toilet needs a sewage pump that passes 2 inch solids, or a grinder pump when the discharge runs through a small pipe or a long force main. Septic effluent goes to an effluent pump, clear groundwater to a sump pump, and floor puddles to a utility pump.
Choose by the Job or by the Pump You Own
Find your job in the left column or your old model in the middle column. Each row points to the page that covers it.

| Pressure sewer or small-diameter force main | WS200GM, WS200GAM | Cut to a slurry | WS200G grinder pumps |
| Septic effluent to a drain field or mound | WS30, WS50, WS50H, WS100H, WSV50H | 11/16 to 3/4 in | Monarch effluent pumps |
| Sewage with stringy or soft solids | WSV52H vortex | Up to 2 in | Monarch effluent pumps |
| Groundwater in a basement sump | ESP33, ESP50 | 1/2 to 3/4 in | ESP and UP pumps |

WS Sewage Series: 2 Inch Solids for Raw Sewage
These cast iron pumps sit in a sewage basin and lift toilet and drain waste up to a gravity sewer or septic tank. They suit a basement bathroom, a laundry room below the sewer line, or a small commercial building.
The WS52 family runs at 1/2 HP and the WS102 family at 1 HP. The H models add lift, and Little Giant lists the current WS sewage series at 23 to 48 feet of shut-off head.
WS200G Grinder Series: Cut Waste Before It Moves
A grinder pump shreds sewage with a hardened cutter before it pumps it. That lets waste travel through a 1 1/4 inch line to a pressure sewer or over a long run.
Monarch built two versions, both 2 HP at 230 V single phase. The WS200GM is manual, and the WS200GAM ships with a piggyback float switch, so neither one needs a special control panel.
WS Effluent and WSV Vortex Pumps: Septic Tank to Drain Field
Effluent is the liquid that leaves a septic tank after the solids settle out. These pumps push it to a leach field, a mound, or a low-pressure pipe system.
The range runs from the 1/3 HP WS30 to the 1 HP WS100H, which reaches 90 feet of shut-off head. The WSV vortex models move solids through a swirl, so solids do not pass through the impeller vanes.
ESP and UP Pumps: Sump, Laundry and Utility Jobs
The ESP33 and ESP50 keep basement sumps dry and can also move light effluent. Each comes with a piggyback float, a vertical float, or no switch at all.
The ESP33S-FP puts a pump in a 5.5 gallon tank for a laundry tray or bar sink with no floor drain. The UP16M is a small portable pump that clears water down to 1/4 inch from the floor.
Monarch Submersible Pumps That Continue Under Little Giant
Monarch's pump line is now part of Franklin Electric, and several of these submersibles carry on under Little Giant, a Franklin Electric brand, with the same model names. That includes the WS effluent and sewage series, the ESP33, the ESP50 and the UP16.
So an old WS50H or ESP33 in your pit can often be matched by name. Browse current Little Giant water pumps, or send us your nameplate and we will confirm the match.
What to Send Us for a Quote
We quote every order, so this page shows no prices. These details let us match the right Monarch pump or part on the first try.
- The full model number from the nameplate, including suffixes like AM, H or -12
- The order number or motor code if the label still shows one
- Your power supply: 115 V or 230 V, single or three phase
- What the pump moves: sewage, septic effluent, groundwater or clear water
- How high the discharge rises and how far it runs
- Whether you want a whole pump or parts like a seal, float or cord
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a sewage pump instead of a sump pump?
Yes, you can use a sewage pump instead of a sump pump, because a pump that passes 2 inch solids can also move groundwater. Little Giant rates its WS sewage series for raw sewage and for commercial dewatering sump jobs. The reverse is not true. A sump pump like the ESP33 passes only 1/2 inch solids, so it is not rated for sewage solids. Keep in mind that local codes may not allow groundwater to be piped into a sanitary sewer.
What size solids can the WS Series pumps handle?
The WS Series pumps handle solids from 11/16 inch to 2 inches, depending on the model. The WS30 effluent pump passes 11/16 inch solids, and the WS50, WS50H and WS100H pass 3/4 inch. The WS52 and WS102 sewage pumps, and the WSV52H vortex pump, pass 2 inch solids. The WS200G grinder cuts solids into a slurry instead. So a 3/4 inch WS model belongs on septic effluent, and a 2 inch model belongs on raw sewage.
Which Monarch pump moves septic effluent to the drain field?
The Monarch WS effluent pumps move septic effluent to the drain field. They sit in the pump chamber after the septic tank and pass solids up to 11/16 or 3/4 inch. The 1/3 HP WS30 (28 ft shut-off head) and the 1/2 HP WS50 (42 ft) fit short, level runs. The high head WS50H (63 ft) and the 1 HP WS100H (90 ft) fit mounds and long runs. Choose by the flow your system needs at its total head.
