Pulling from a canal at dawn, filling a water truck at noon, and pushing an end gun into a field corner at night can all run on a Franklin Electric frame mount pump. The pump has its own shaft and bearings, so a motor, belt, engine, PTO, or hydraulic motor can drive it. Use the table below to find your job, then jump to the family built for it.
Franklin Electric describes its frame mount centrifugal line as single-stage, end suction pumps from 1/2 HP through 125 HP, with flows up to 2,000 GPM.
Pick a Franklin Electric Frame Mount Pump by the Job
Find the row that sounds like your site. The family in the second column has its own section and page below.
| Your job or situation | Family to look at | Series |
|---|---|---|
| Clean water, flooded suction, motor or belt already on site | Standard centrifugal | XS, FACT |
| Booster, circulation, or fire system jockey pump | Standard centrifugal | FACT |
| Pond or canal water with silt, pump fed by gravity | Standard centrifugal | FAOT |
| Pump sits above the water and restarts often | Self-priming | FBSTF, FMIT, FTT |
| Muddy dewatering water with sand and silt | Self-priming | FMIT |
| Large pond-to-field transfer on 4-inch pipe | Self-priming | FTT-40 |
| Tractor or skid steer hydraulics, water flows into the pump | Hydraulic driven | XS439 HB or HC |
| Tractor hydraulics, pump sits above a pond or ditch | Hydraulic self-priming | FMIH, in our self-priming category |
| Tanker truck for dust control or road work | Specialty | XS439 water truck pump |
| Center pivot end gun that falls short of the corners | Specialty | FEGB-200TE end gun booster |
Standard Centrifugal: XS, FACT, and FAOT
These pumps need water in the housing before they start, and in return they give simple, efficient flow. The XS covers high volume in 9-inch and 13-inch sizes. The FACT uses an enclosed 2x2 impeller for clean water boosting, and the FAOT's open face impeller passes silt and light debris.
Impellers, seals, and ports for all three are compared on the XS, FACT, and FAOT page.
Self-Priming: FBSTF, FMIT, and FTT
After the first fill, these pumps clear air from the suction line on their own and restart without help. The FMIT handles mud, sand, and silt up to 10% by volume and has a replaceable wear plate.
The FTT-20/40 is the largest group, rated up to 740 GPM and 140 feet of head on 2, 3, and 4-inch ports. See every model on the frame mount self-priming page.
Hydraulic Driven: XS439 HB and HC
These models swap the belt frame for an SAE B or SAE C spline, so a hydraulic motor turns the pump. Your tractor, skid steer, or truck becomes the power plant, and oil flow sets the pump speed.
The XS439 is not self-priming. If the pump will sit above a pond or ditch, look at the hydraulic driven self-priming FMIH, listed under Franklin self-priming pumps.
The model code key and spline sizes are on the hydraulic driven centrifugal page.
Specialty: Water Truck Pump and End Gun Booster
The XS439 water truck pump comes in belt frame and hydraulic drives, clockwise or counterclockwise, with grooved or threaded ports. The FEGB-200TE end gun booster pairs a 2 HP, 460V three-phase TEFC motor with a stainless steel impeller to push the end gun into the field corners.
Both are covered on the water truck and booster page.
What to Send Us for a Quote
A frame mount pump has many build options, so a few details up front save a round of emails:
- The model number from your current pump's nameplate, if you are replacing one.
- Your drive: motor, belt, engine, PTO, or hydraulic motor, plus which way the shaft turns.
- Your water: clean or dirty, and whether it sits above or below the pump.
- The flow you need and the total head, including lift and pipe run.
- Port style (grooved, threaded, or flanged) and seal preference (packing or mechanical).
- Whether you need a complete unit or only the bare pump end.
Pump size, port size, and seal type set most of the price, and a bare pump end costs less than a unit with its drive attached. We quote the exact configuration, not a close match.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a frame mounted pump?
A frame mounted pump is a pump with its own shaft and bearings held in a bearing frame, separate from the motor or engine that drives it. A coupling, belt, PTO shaft, or hydraulic motor connects the drive to the pump shaft. Because the pump carries its own loads, you can switch power sources and service the pump end on its own. Every Franklin series on this page uses that layout.
Is direct drive better than belt drive?
Direct drive is better than belt drive when the motor speed already matches the pump's duty point, because a coupling has no belts to stretch or replace. Belt drive is better when you need to change pump speed, since a new pulley ratio moves the pump along its curve. Franklin frame mount pumps such as the FACT, FAOT, FBSTF, and FTT accept either drive, so the choice comes down to your motor speed and maintenance plan.
What is the most efficient type of water pump?
The most efficient type of water pump for clean water is usually a centrifugal pump with an enclosed impeller, sized so it runs near its best efficiency point. In this family, the FACT and XS use enclosed impellers for that reason. Open and semi-open impellers, like the FAOT and the self-priming FBSTF, give up a little efficiency to pass silt and debris. An oversized pump running far off its curve wastes energy no matter the design.
Send us the nameplate model number from your current pump, or tell us your water source and power source, and we will quote the right Franklin frame mount pump.
