Oil-filled means the motor housing is filled with dielectric oil rather than air. The oil carries heat away from the windings far better than air does and keeps water out under pressure, which is why these units tolerate continuous duty and repeated cycling better than many dry-motor designs.

They suit applications where the pump stays submerged and runs often: construction dewatering, elevator pits, drainage sumps and industrial water removal. Sizing follows the same rules as any pump, meaning the flow you need at the height the water actually has to be lifted rather than the figure printed on the carton.
